Abstract

Celaleddin Çelik, who has written valuable works in the field of sociology and sociology of religion, has published his latest book "Situations of the City " from Ketebe Publications in 2021. In the book, which consists of ten chapters, Çelik has analyzed the changes, transformations and fractures of the city in the historical process through its important symbols (such as the square, book, art, residence, cemetery). Various states of the city in the book; It has been discussed together with its historical, religious and cultural background. Throughout the book, the features that define the modern city are underlined in bold. It was emphasized that this new type of city is characterized as an institutionalized, bureaucratic, rational, secular and individualistic living environment. In this sense, "Situations of the City" helps us to understand the complex world of the modern city, in addition to bringing attention to the traditional city experience and the characteristic features of the Islamic city. In modern times, the city's separation from history and tradition constitutes the main emphasis of the book. A critical perspective dominates the entire book. The contribution of the literary style was also used in the study, which was written in a fluent style.
