Abstract

A Foresight Study on the Future of Journalism

Year 2024, Volume: 6 Issue: 1, 6 - 21, 30.04.2024

Abstract

This study analyses the nature of journalism in relation to technological developments and some debates about the future of the profession from the viewpoints of journalists. The structure of journalism is challenged by the unprecedented changes on news production processes brought about by digital technologies and artificial intelligence. In the context of all these developments, in this study, semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted with 11 journalists within the framework of a qualitative phenomenological approach. The findings of the study suggest that although digital technologies have a negative impact on the structure of journalism, the profession will still have a place in the future. Another finding is that verifiable news would only be possible by the use of professional journalism codes in a context that information ecology is misled by digital platforms.
