Abstract
Yemek, her gün tekrar eden sıradan bir pratik olarak görünse de çok işlevliliği ve çok anlamlılığıyla toplumsalın, politikanın, ekonominin ve hepsinin ortak keseni olarak kültürün birarada konuşulmasına izin veren çok boyutlu bir olgudur. Tam da bu nedenle sosyal bilimler alanında çalışanlar için kültürel dönemeç, her şeyi içinde barındıran gündelik hayatı ve kültürünü anlamak için yemeği bir inceleme konusu haline getirme konusunda güçlü bir motivasyon sağladı. Bu bağlamda insanlık tarihini okumak için bir kaynak olarak kabul edebileceğimiz yemek, toplumsal iktidar ilişkilerini anlamada ve devam ettirmede gündelik hayat pratiklerinin doğallığının ve sıradanlığının nasıl çalıştığını kavrama konusunda da yardımcı oldu. Toplumsal cinsiyet ilişkileri, kültürel çeşitlilik, ulusal ve kültürel kimlik, sınıfsal farklılıklar, milliyetçilik-gastro milliyetçilik üretim ve tüketim ilişkileri, sağlık, gıda politikaları, gıda ve sağlık okuryazarlığı, yemek medyası, uluslararası ilişkiler vb. konularında sosyolojiden ekonomiye, antropolojiden siyaset bilimine, iletişim bilimlerinden sağlık bilimlerine, turizmden edebiyata kadar pek çok alanın yemek konusuyla ilişkilenmesinin önünü açtı. Yemeğin ilişkilendiği alanlardaki çeşitlilik bu konuyu çalışmak için zengin bir araştırma yöntem ve teknik çeşitliliğini de sağladı. Bütün bunlar biraraya gelince yemek, bu temanın editörleri olarak bizler için de akademik alanlarımız olan iletişim ve sosyoloji bağlamında yeni şeyleri dert edinip yeni bakış açıları ile yola devam edebileceğimiz, farklı bilgiler üretmemize olanak verdiği kadar keyif veren de bir konu haline geldi.
Abstract
Food may seem like an ordinary practice that is repeated every day, however it is a multidimensional phenomenon that, with its multifunctionality and polysemy, allows us to talk about the social, the political, the economic and, as a cross-section of all, the cultural. It is particularly for this reason that for those working in the social sciences, the cultural turn has provided a strong motivation to make food a subject of study in order to understand the all-encompassing everyday life and its culture. In this context, food, which can be considered as a source for reading human history, has also helped us to grasp how the naturalness and ordinariness of everyday life practices work in understanding and maintaining social and power relations. Gender relations, cultural diversity, national and cultural identity, class differences, nationalism-gastro-nationalism, production and consumption relations, health, food policies, food and health literacy, food media, international relations, etc. have paved the way for many fields from sociology to economics, anthropology to political science, communication sciences to health sciences, tourism to literature. The diversity in the fields that food is related to has also enhanced a rich variety of research methods and techniques to study this subject. As a result, for us, as the editors of this special issue, food has become a subject that not only allows us to produce different knowledge, but also gives us pleasure, where we can continue with new things and new perspectives in the context of our academic fields of communication and sociology.
