Abstract
The 1929 Great Depression emerged as one of the significant issues in the history of the United States. In the aftermath of World War I, the USA couldn’t collect debts from countries it had lent money to, and finding markets to sell surplus products became increasingly difficult. The environment created by bank loans contributed to the crisis. During this crisis, factors like layoffs and business closures led to an increase in unemployment. The policies and agreements implemented by those in power over the years have brought about various changes in unemployment rates (both positive and negative). This study aims to examine the phenomenon of unemployment in the United States in the context of the conditions of that era.

Abstract
1929 Dünya Ekonomik Buhranı ABD’nin 20.yy’daki en büyük problemlerinden birisi olarak ortaya çıkmıştır. I. Dünya Savaşı sonrası dönemde ABD borç verdiği devletlerden borçlarını tahsil edememiş, ürettiği ürünlerin fazlasını da satacak pazarlar bulması zorlaşmış ve bankaların kredilerinin oluşturduğu ortamda krize sürüklenmiştir. Bu kriz esnasında birçok işten çıkarılmalar ve iş yerlerinin kapatılması gibi sebeplerle işsizlik artmıştır. İktidardakilerin uyguladıkları politikalar ve anlaşmalar da yıllar içerisinde işsizlik oranlarında değişimlere (olumlu-olumsuz) sebep olmuştur. Bu çalışma Amerika’daki işsizlik olgusunun dönemin şartları çerçevesinde incelenmesini kapsamaktadır.
