Do Decision-Making Styles Affect Career Stress?

Year 2024, Issue: 61, 149 - 163, 15.05.2024
https://doi.org/10.9779/pauefd.1314265

Abstract

The aim of this research is to reveal the effect of the decision-making styles of university students studying in the field of sports sciences on career stress. The study sample consists of 389 students (female 156, male 233, Age 21.40±2.833, min 18, max. 37) studying at the Faculty of Sport Sciences in Turkey. Personal Information Form, “Melbourne Decision-Making Scale-II” and “Korean Career Stress Scale” were used as data collection tools. Descriptive statistics, reliability analysis, t-test, ANOVA, and multiple linear regression analysis were applied to the data analysis. As a result of the analysis showed that the independent variables together explained 21% of the total variance in career stress and that “hypervigilance” and “vigilance” decision-making styles had a significant effect on career stress. On the other hand, “buckpassing” and “procrastination” decision-making styles did not significantly affect career stress. As a result, it can be said that career stresses increase when students apply a “hypervigilance” decision-making style, and career stresses decrease when they apply a “vigilance” decision-making style. The relative importance of the predictor variables on career stress; “hypervigilance”, “vigilance”, “procrastination,” and “buckpassing” decision-making styles. When these results are evaluated, it is recommended that students minimize the hypervigilance decision-making style in order not to experience career stress and make the final decision by applying a vigilance decision-making style by analyzing and evaluating the conscious and options. In addition, information and promotion platforms should be created in the process of determining career paths in sports before university education, and career expertise and consultancy in sports should be developed.

Karar Verme Stilleri Kariyer Stresini Etkiler mi?

Year 2024, Issue: 61, 149 - 163, 15.05.2024

Abstract

Bu araştırmada, spor bilimleri alanında eğitim alan üniversite öğrencilerinin karar verme stillerinin kariyer stresini yordayıp yordamadığını incelemek amaçlanmıştır. Çalışmaya, Türkiye’de Spor Bilimleri Fakültesi’nde eğitim alan 389 öğrenci (kadın 156, erkek 233, YaşOrt 21.40±2.833, min. 18, mak. 37) gönüllü olarak katılmıştır. Araştırmada, kişisel bilgi formu, Melbourne Karar Verme Ölçeği-II ve Kore Kariyer Stresi Ölçeği veri toplama araçları olarak kullanılmıştır. Verilerin analizinde betimsel istatistikler, güvenirlik analizi, t-test, ANOVA ve çoklu doğrusal regresyon analizi uygulanmıştır. Bulgular, bağımsız değişkenlerin birlikte kariyer stresindeki toplam varyansın %21’ini açıkladığı, “panik” ve “dikkatli” karar verme stillerinin kariyer stresi üzerinde anlamlı bir etkiye sahip olduğunu göstermiştir. Sonuç olarak, öğrencilerin “panik” karar verme stili uyguladığında kariyer streslerinin arttığı, “dikkatli” karar verme stili uyguladıklarında ise kariyer streslerinin azaldığı söylenebilir. Sonuçlar değerlendirildiğinde, öğrencilerin kariyer stresi yaşamaması için panik karar verme stilini en aza indirgemesi, bilinçli ve seçenekleri analiz edip değerlendirerek nihai kararı dikkatli karar verme stili uygulayarak alması önerilmektedir.
