Evaluation of the Reading Practices in Online Press: From Newspaper to Online Journal

Abstract

Nowadays, as a result of the technological developments, Internet seems to emerge as a new medium for press. This new shift from print media to Internet brought new news writing techniques and a diversification in the news reading experiences and routines of the readers. This research aims to compare the effects created on the readers by the news published on two different types of media: newspaper and the news websites. It thus aims at analyzing the effects at different levels: the comprehension and the memorization of news and the reaction of the readers towards the news. In the first stage of the research, a survey is conducted with 120 students to analyze new practices of reading, which appeared after the emergence of the electronic versions of print media. The second qualitative stage of the research employs a "task observation" method, a post-evaluation questionnaire and a semi-structured interview with 20 university students who are typical users of news websites. In this stage, "Le Monde" newspaper and its web version "lemonde.fr" are used as the research media. The findings suggest the notion that the "new" reader adopts different approaches in reading news from two different media.

Abstract

De nos jours, grâce à l'essor du numérique, la diffusion des informations en tant que médias écrits ont trouvé un nouveau milieu de publication : le journal sur Internet. Au niveau de la presse écrite, cela a entraîné un changement des traitements journalistiques et a créé une grande influence sur les habitudes de s'informer des lecteurs. Cette recherche a pour objectif de comparer les effets créés sur les lecteurs par les Informations publiées sur deux différents médias : le journal-papier et le journal sur Internet. Elle vise ainsi à analyser les effets de nouveaux médias d'information sur la compréhension et la mémorisation des Informations et la réaction des lecteurs. Nous analyserons les nouvelles habitudes de lecture apparues après l'apparition des versions électroniques en nous basant sur notre analyse quantitative réalisée auprès des 125 étudiants. Dans la deuxième partie de notre recherche, nous approfondirons cette perspective globale d'après les résultats de notre recherche d'observation, du questionnaire de post-évaluation et des entretiens semi directifs réalisée avec les 20 étudiants francophones qui pratiquent les nouveaux médias numériques dans leur vie quotidienne pour s'informer. La version papier du quotidien « Le Monde » et la version électronique « lemonde.fr » sont les supports utilisés pour notre travail d'observation basée sur la méthode de « l'observation de tâche ». Les résultats de cette recherche nous justifient que le « nouveau » lecteur a des habitudes et des pratiques de lecture différentes sur le site Internet d'un quotidien et sur le journal-papier.

Abstract

Günümüzde, sayısal iletişim ortamların hızlı teknolojik evrimi sayesinde internet, yazılı basının yeni yayın organı olmuştur. Yazılı basın alanında bu durum yeni yazım tekniklerinin doğmasına ve okuyucuların haber okuma alışkanlıklarının değişmesine neden olmuştur. Bu araştırmanın amacı iki farklı medya üzerinde yayınlanan haberlerin okuyucu üzerindeki etkilerini karşılaştırmaktır: Basılı gazete ve gazetelerin internet yayını. Araştırma, internet üzerindeki yayınların haberi anlama, akılda tutma ve habere yorum yapma alanlarındaki etkilerini analiz etmeyi amaçlamaktadır. Gazetelerin internet yayınlarının gelişimiyle birlikte ortaya çıkan yeni okuma alışkanlıklarını analiz etmek için çalışmanın birinci ayağında 120 öğrenciyle bir anket çalışması yapılmıştır. Niteliksel bir analizin gerçekleştirildiği ikinci aşamada, günlük hayatlarında haber takibi için internetten yararlanan 20 üniversite öğrencisiyle bilgisayar başında bir gözlem testi gerçekleştirilmiş, bunu takiben bir post-değerlendirme anketi ve yarı-yapılandırılmış görüşme yapılmıştır. "Görev gözlem" metoduyla gerçekleştirilen gözlem bölümünde ve tamamlayıcı etaplarda, "Le Monde" gazetesi ve aynı gazetenin internet yayını "lemonde.fr" internet sitesinden yararlanılmıştır. Sonuçlar "yeni" okuyucunun basılı gazeteden ve internet yayınlarından haber okurken farklı yaklaşımları benimsediğini göstermiştir.
