Social Movements and Acts in Urban Public Places: Looking at Hrant Dink Protests as an Intervention to the Places of Authority through the Communication Studies Perspective This paper attempts to comprehend the varying ways that civic struggles use urban spaces within the conceptual framework drawn by the contents of communicative action, participation and communicative city. While the possibilities and impossibilities that the city contains in this context are taken into consideration, a contradiction within the city will be the starting point: While there stands emancipatory/emancipative potential on one hand, on the contrary, there exists the premise that the urban spaces (i.e. squares, streets, periphery of public facilities) are places of authority. The paper argues that, as these places of authority are used as the main stage of resistance by the social movements, they become the subject of struggle in terms of opening new terrains of communication. The essentials of the communicative city are considered in the study within the time period starting from the Hrant Dink’s murder, suggesting that social movements are conflicting in nature and the stages of the city are areas of struggle. This suggestion implies that the urban spaces are the main areas of expression for civic struggle where people are able to speak, oppose and seek rights through varying means of political participation and communicative action. What is remarkable here is how people open themselves these areas despite all barriers and restrictions via using the contexts of communicative city.

Bu çalışmanın hedefi, yurttaşların mücadele biçimlerinin kent alanlarını ne denli farklı kullanabildiklerini iletişim eylemi, katılım ve iletişimsel kent kavramları etrafında anlamaktır. Kentin bu anlamda sunduğu olanaklar ve olanaksızlıklar ele alınırken, iki çelişik durumdan hareket edilecektir: Kentsel mekânın özgürlükçü/özgürleştirici potansiyeli bir tarafta dururken, tam karşısında da meydanlar da dâhil olmak üzere, sokaklar, kamu binalarının önleri gibi kentsel mekânların birer otorite mekânı olduğu önkabülü durmaktadır… Bu otorite mekânları, toplumsal hareketler tarafından direnişlerin ana sahnesi haline getirilirken, kent mekânlarının, yeni iletişim alanları açmak bakımından da mücadele konusu olduğu, ileri sürülecektir.

Çalışmada, iletişimsel kent kavramının içerdiği tüm esaslar, toplumsal
hareketlerin çatışmacı karakteri ile kent sahnelerinin çatışma alanları olduğu
noktasından hareketle, Hrant Dink’in öldürülmesiyle başlayan eylemler süresince
ele alınıp yorumlanmıştır. Böylece kent alanları, eylemci yurttaş topluluklarının
temel ifade alanları, yurttaşların farklı iletişim biçimleriyle konuştuğu ve itiraz ettiği,
hak aradığı bir politik katılım alanı ve iletişim eylemi ortamı olmuştur. Bu süreçte
dikkat çekici olan, kentin iletişimsel olanaklarının buna özgürce izin vermesi değil,
yurttaşların tüm kısıtlamalara ve engellere rağmen, kentin iletişimsel ortamlarını
kullanarak kendilerine alan açmalarıdır. 

Le but de cette recherche est de comprendre comment les citoyens
utilisent les espaces publics comme moyen de communication et de participation
afin de montrer leur moyen de lutte. Tout en prenant en main les possibilités et
les impossibilités offertes par les villes de ce point de vue, nous allons nous
baser sur deux situations contradictoires: alors que d’un côté nous avons le
potentiel de liberté/libérale de l’espace urbain, d’un autre côté nous sommes
face à l’admission préliminaire du fait que ces espaces comme les rues, les
bâtiments publics appartiennent à une autorité… Alors que ces espaces
d’autorité devienne la scène principale des révoltes des mouvements sociaux, il
est aussi invoqué que ces espaces urbains sont un sujet de lutte du point de vue
qu’elles offrent de nouveaux moyens de communication.
Dans cette étude, prend en main et interprete les évènements qui ont
commencé par l’assassinat de Hrant Dink en partant du fait que tous les principes
qui incluent la notion de ville communicationnelle viennent du caractère conflictuel
des mouvements sociaux et que les espaces urbains sont les lieux de conflit.
Ainsi, les espaces urbains sont devenus des lieux où les citoyens activistes
expriment leur idéologies, des lieux où les citoyens parlent et s’opposent avec
des moyens de communication différents, des lieux de participation politique où
ils recherchent leur droit ainsi que des environnements d’action communicatrice.
Ce qui est intéressant de constater dans cette évolution c’est que malgré toutes
les restrictions et interdictions, les citoyens se créeent eux-meme des espaces
en se servant de l’atmosphère de communication de le ceux-ci.
