Abstract

Workplace Violence against Healthcare Workers in Turkey with the Perspective of Health Communication The perspective of health communication on workplace violence against health care workers could first and foremost contribute to addressing this subject as a public health problem. And analysing the media coverage of this subject could enhance the effective implementation of informing function of the media and to build of more suited public information environment in terms of effective health communication. This article is analysing the discourse of the news on this particular issue in Turkish newspapers, examining how violence against health care workers has been represented by the means of the language and visual materials in these news. It could be identified that these news have been conveyed as ‘third page news’ and with an effort of creating a narrative, a story telling, and thus making the issue more sensational. This discourse contributes to the perception of violent incidents as an entertaining spectacle and to the reproduction, generalisation, and even legitimisation of the violence.
