Abstract
Dijital teknolojilerin gelişimi ve yaygınlaşması, sinemanın birçok alanını olduğu gibi film arşivlerini de ciddi şekilde etkilemiştir. İnternet ve yeni dijital saklama teknikleriyle birlikte, geleneksel olarak fiziksel bir mevcudiyeti olan film arşivleri farklı bir mecraya taşınmış ve fiziksel varoluşlarının sınırlılıklarından kurtulmaya başlamışlardır. Ancak bu dönüşüm, olumlu yanlarına rağmen birçok yeni sorunu da beraberinde getirmiştir. Nezih Erdoğan ve Ezgi Kayaalp’in editörlüğünü yaptığı Exploring Past Images in a Digital Age: Reinventing the Archive başlıklı çalışma da, daha önce arşiv çalışmalarında üzerinde yeterince durulmamış bu sorunları ele almaktadır. Farklı coğrafyalardan gelen akademisyen, arşivci ve sanatçılarının katkılarıyla oluşan kitap, analogdan dijitale geçiş sürecindeki bu alanı analiz etme ve yeni bağlamlarla ele almayı hedeflemektedir. Bunu yaparken de akademik araştırmalar ve sanatsal çalışmalar için alternatif yöntem ve olanaklar öne sürerek arşiv çalışmalarının geçirdiği dönüşümden en verimli nasıl yararlanabileceği üzerine kafa yormaktadır.

Abstract
The development and widespread use of digital technologies has had a significant impact on film archives, as it has on many other areas of cinema. With the Internet and new digital storage techniques, film archives, which traditionally had a physical presence, have moved to a different medium and started to get rid of the limitations of their physical existence. However, despite its positive aspects, this transformation has also brought along many new problems. Exploring Past Images in a Digital Age: Reinventing the Archive, edited by Nezih Erdoğan and Ezgi Kayaalp, addresses these problems, which have not been sufficiently emphasized in archival studies before. With the contributions of academics, archivists and artists from different geographical locations, the book aims to analyze this field in the process of transition from analog to digital and to address it in new contexts. In doing so, the book proposes alternative methods and possibilities for academic research and artistic endeavors, and reflects on how archival studies can make the most efficient use of the transformation it has undergone.
