Uyarlamak m›? Uyumlanmak m›? : “Tersyüz-Adaptation”
Abstract
This article focuses on the phases of making an adaptation for cinema and the relation between literature and cinema. Mainly it is stressing on screenwriter's position between two different media. Cinema has been using adaptation as a "source" of film from the very beginning. Popular cinema needs literature, especially popular novels and stories to tell. In due course, adaptation as a term and process is very important for film studies as well. Making an adaptation for cinema is always a problematical site too. Difficulties of adaptation for a screenwriter is studied in this article. In many cases adaptation becomes a process of"compromise"with requirements of film industry. In "Tersyüz/Adaptation", the screenwriter Charlie Kaufman shows us how hard is being a screenwriter who should make an adaptation for Hollywood. He struggles with the main source the "book" and the industry's strict rules that asks too much from him as a screenwriter who doesn't want to write conventional screenplay.
