A Profile Essay on Eskişehir City Press and City Journalism : The Attitudes of the Journalists Towards The City Press
Abstract
In this study, the importance of the city press and city journalism was introduced, taking Eskişehir case as a starting point. The aim of this study is to analyze the contents of the newspapers published in Eskişehir in 2007 and to analyze the structures and operations of the newspapers as organizations, the working conditions of the journalists and their attitudes towards journalism profession. First of all, the profiles of the eight newspapers (Ak Haber, Anadolu, Burç, İki Eylül, İstikbal, Milli İrade, Sakarya ve Sonhaber), which compose Eskişehir city press, were revealed by qualitative text analysis. The radios and televisions, which broadcast in Eskişehir, were not included in this study. The production stages of the newspapers, their ownership structures, their circulations / the rate of net sales, their interactions with the political and economical environment, their editorial autonomies, their problems etc. were evaluated according to the data gathered from the deep interviews. According to the findings of the study it was determined that the city press in Eskişehir has economical problems and it has the sense of broadcasting which give priority to the public interest and and it has uniformity in the sense of news contents.
